What is Power and Save?

Power and Save is a website which allows you to take advantage of flexible energy tariffs for optimised, cost-efficient charging.

Step 1

As you can see in the example above (from Octopus Energy Agile tariff), the price you pay to import electricity varies a lot throughout the day. On 05 Feb 2024, the cost to import at 02:00 was 0.9p per kilowatt hour and at 18:00 it was 30.1p. There are even periods when this price is negative (you are paid) to import from the grid.

Typically, standard energy equipment providers such as Sunsynk do not offer any specific features to prevent you from importing energy from the grid during costly periods when your charge is depleted. For instance, if your batteries run out by 18:00, as illustrated above, you could end up paying 30.1p per kilowatt-hour, which can accumulate into substantial expenses over time.

Additionally, energy providers do not simplify the process of charging at the most favourable rates on a daily basis. If you opt to manage it independently (without Power and Save), you'll need to invest time daily in determining the optimal price and manually updating it through the equipment.

Power and Save was created to keep your batteries topped up during the cheaper periods and take away the burden of having to update the import price every day.

If you have batteries (and optionally solar panels), but are pulling your hair out trying to work out a way to calculate what price you should set the system to charge at then Power and Save may be for you.

As of now, Power and Save supports integrations with Octopus Energy (Agile tariffs) and Sunsynk inverters. If you wish to see additional integrations, please share your feedback with us by emailing support@powerandsave.com.
